Religious Emblems

The Religious Emblem program was developed by Scouters and Church leaders as a way to deepen the faith and understanding of our Scouts. 
- These medals can be worn on Scout uniforms.
- They can be earned as individuals but are often accomplished in a group of Scouts.
- Counselors can be found to work with any interested Youth in practically any denomination.  

Books and resources are available via the Scout Shop but there are many resources online:

Publications are available via the Scout Shop: 
"A Scout is Reverent" booklet (item 5-961) is a resource for Scout Sunday observance in Protestant and other churches. There is a service outlined with songs and readings. 
"Scouts Worship" is a pocket sized booklet of materials that can be used in a variety of worship settings.

The Pope Pius medal is for practicing Catholic Boy Scouts or Venturing Scouts (male or female) who are 15-16 years old.

Ad Altare Dei

The purpose of the Ad Altare Dei ( to the altar of God) program is to help Catholic Youth of the Roman Rite develop a fully Christian way of life in the faith community. The program is organized in chapters based on the seven sacraments. The seven Sacraments are a primary means toward spiritual growth.

  • Eligability is - Any youth of the Roman Catholic Faith who is registered in a BSA Troop or Crew.
  • Designed for youth 13-14 years old, older youth may use this program.
  • Active member of a unit for 6 months.
  • Completed 6th grade before starting the program.
