Troop 416 - New Scout Info

Boy Scout Troop 416 supports families in the Palm Harbor, Ozona, Crystal Beach, Highland Lakes, and Tarpon Springs area of northern Pinellas County, Florida. It is the mission of Troop 416 to serve others by helping to instill values in young people and, in other ways, to prepare them to make ethical choices throughout their lifetime in achieving their full potential.

Through the advancement program and peer group leadership, Scouting helps a boy learn skills and values necessary to develop into a well-rounded young man. The Eagle Scout rank, the highest rank in Scouting, is recognized around the world as a mark of excellence and Troop 416 has recognized numerous Eagle Scouts since its creation.

Like most parents, you are probably wondering two things: how much will it cost and what is expected of me?

When registering as a new Scout, the cost will be $25 annually for national BSA dues and $10 per month for our Troop dues. A subscription for Boys Life Magazine is optional at $12 annually. A "Class A" uniform is required and can be a somewhat expensive upfront cost, however you can possibly find the components cheaper online or at a Thrift Store. In addition, Troop 416 “Class B” T-shirts are available for purchase for $10. We try to camp every month and there is typically a nominal camping fee and grub fee. Lastly, we attend at least one (usually two) summer camps a year as well as winter camp, and high adventure Spring Break trips which are typically around $300 per event, however we try to offset these expenses with numerous fundraisers throughout the year.

If you are transferring in from another Troop, you will need to have your BSA card with your son’s identification number on it. The fee to transfer is $1 for national dues if your membership is current.

Many hands make light work! Naturally, we want your help to make this the best Scouting experience ever for your son. We do understand that your time is valuable. There are many opportunities for parents to help make things work on a short-term basis. We ask one adult from every household to commit to serving on the Committee or attending and/or driving to at least one campout during the year.

What if you want to do more? Please join us. We rely on Assistant Scoutmasters and Committee Members to play a vital role in teaching the boys and shaping them into the wonderful citizens they will become.

If you have any questions or would like more information on what Scouting has to offer, please do not hesitate to reach out via the “Contact Our Troop” link or stop by at one of our Wednesday night meetings.
