Citizenship Training: Scouting teaches boys to be good and responsible citizens by instilling concepts of duty to country and service to others in the community.

Mental and Physical Fitness: Scouting challenges boys to do their best at developing their own physical and mental skills through age appropriate achievements and recognition.

Ideals: Expressed in the Cub Scout Promise, Law of the Pack, Sign, Motto, Handshake and Salute, the ideals of scouting teach good citizenship and contribute to a boy's sense of belonging.

Cub Scouting Ideals

The Cub Scout Promise

"I, ________________, promise to do my best
To do my duty to God and my country,
             To help other people, and
To obey the Law of the Pack"

Cub Scouts make a promise that helps them develop a sense of spiritual awareness, loyalty, responsibility, unselfishness, self-discipline, and service to others.

The Law of the Pack

             The Cub Scout follows Akela
The Cub Scout helps the pack go
The pack helps the Cub Scout grow
             The Cub Scout goodwill

The Law of the Pack instills a respect for adult leadership, cooperation with others, and the concept of personal growth and improvement. References to characters like Akela, Baloo and Baghera in Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book tie the aims of Cub Scouting to this familiar childhood story about good vs. evil. We encourage you to read this book or view the animated Disney video The Jungle Book with your son to familiarize him with the story.
