Pack 260's history

2011-2012 Pack 260                                                                                2012-2013 Pack 260

2010-2011 Pack 260                                                                            2009-2010 Pack 260

Let me tell you a story. Around 2004, two fathers sat around the picnic table and discussed the world and all of its tests and tribulations. Concerned that their young sons might be ill equipped to handle the challenges that come to young boys as they grow into men, they sought out to form a club that could prepare their boys to gradually become honorable, self reliant men. Following a suggestion from a wise friend, they looked around the neighborhood for a Cub Scout Pack. After exhausting themselves searching for a neighborhood Cub Scout Pack, they finally rounded up the resources to form their very own Cub Scout Pack. Knowing that Boy Scouts of America is an organization with identical goals and aspirations of other parents in the neighborhood, they were able to bring 5 boys to the first meeting.

Fast forwarding a few years to 2006, Mrs. Bonofiglio a teacher at Orenco Elementary had a phenomenal impact on Scouting and the community. She had a young boy in her class whose interests matched that of Scouting and who could benefit from learning how to be a leader. Knowing what Scouting had done for others in the past (one of her own sons had reached the rank of Eagle Scout), she recommended to that boy’s parents to go and check out Cub Scouts. Following her advice, those parents signed up their young son into Pack 260. Impressed with the progress their first son made within Scouting, they signed up their second son. Awed by the transformation of their boys, parents of their friends signed their sons up to join Scouting. Those first set of parents had so much fun watching their boys in Cub Scouts that the dad became the Cubmaster. Other parents took leadership positions as well.  Now those original fathers have long moved on to Boy Scouts with their sons, but the impact of their initial vision is felt throughout the Orenco Neighborhood. Each year since the begining, Pack 260 consistently sends over 25 boys to summer camp, were they can leave their worries and troubles behind and play like boys, learn like boys, and start establishing that foundation to becoming a man.

Pack 260 has been continuously operating under a Boy Scouts of America charter since 2004. In the past, Pack 260 has been chartered by The Elks Lodge #1862 of Hillsboro, Orenco Presbyterian Church, and now our current charter organization, Harvest Community Church. Pack 260 has had several dynamic Cubmasters including Louis Machado 2006-2008, Matt Kupperman 2008-2010, John Raetz 2010-2012 and Paul Hinchcliff 2012- 2013 and now Josh Hernandez 2013 - still serving . Pack 260 has also had wonderful vision provided by a handful of Committee Chairs, Josh Lepley 2006-2008, Louis Machado 2008-2009, Tony Burns 2009- 2011, Caroline Thurston 2011, and our current Committee Chair Michelle Burns 2011 - still serving. All of these Adult Scout Leaders have been supported by a passionate leadership teams including the 17 currently Registered and Trained Den Leaders and Committee Members.

One of Pack 260's beliefs is reverent, respectful, and responsible young men are crafted early in life. We at Pack 260 work hard to teach morals, values, and character in parallel with learning about nature, citizenship, and science to the young boys of the Orenco Neighborhood and Washington County Oregon. Finally, if you believe that Cub Scout Pack 260 could be a positive influence on your son or a neighborhood boy, please do as Mrs. Bonofiglio did and recommend Scouting to that special boy, who needs great role models, phenomenal mentoring, opportunities to expand his horizons, and a chance to make some of the most fantastic friends in the world.

Continuing to inspire,
Pack 260 Leadership Team
